Relocation to Turin
In September 1578 the Shroud was moved from Chambéry to Turin under the direction of the House of Savoy. The relocation aligned with the Savoy court’s move and placed the relic in its long-term home.
Historical Significance
The Turin transfer established a permanent custodial base and shaped the future pattern of exhibitions and scientific studies centered in the city.
